A festival to venerate the birth of Lord Ganesha
Being Gujarati, We don’t need a special theme to celebrate or to have fun wit.. Yes are like this. Now a days we’re all set to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi I mean the birthday of “Lal Baag Ka Raja”.
Oh let me explain: Ganesha Chaturthi is the Hindu festival celebrated on the birthday (rebirth) of the god Ganesha. It is believed that Lord Ganesh bequeath his presence on earth for all his devotees during this festival. It is the day when Ganesha was born. Ganesha is widely worshipped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune and traditionally invoked at the beginning of any new venture or at the start of travel.
Markets are blown up and skilled artisans start crafting clay models of Lord Ganesha in various poses, a few months earlier of the mega-event. In my City, whether it’s a kid or a housewife, I can see the enthusiasm in everybody for this celebration; People are not only offering prayers and preparing sweet dishes.
Then why would I leave the fun behind?
Last night, I had to roam all around the city & in different societies to get the glimpse of various poses of Lord Ganesha. All the societies including mine have installed Ganesh idols in well decorated mandap to offer our prayers and celebrate the festival in the best way possible.
In my Society, Kids start playing drums before 15 min to give the intimation before prayers. At mandaps, the celebration kicks off @ 8 PM with the chanting of mantras and prayers offered by few ladies. We all offer sweets, jaggery, modakas, to Lord Ganesha. Throughout the auspicious ritual, we chant hymns from the Vedas as an act to be evidence for amazement.
In Mandaps, Lord Ganesha are decorated with glittering lights, colourful flower garlands and smeared with kumkum on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. At the end of the puja ceremony, ‘prasad’ is distributed to everyone who has been the part of ceremony the devotees as it is believed to have deity’s blessing. The celebration concludes after a continuous celebration of more than a week by submerging the statue in river.
Apart from decoration, cultural activities are also organized to motivate everyone to retain information about our tradition and observe the auspicious festival. We leave no stone unturned to share the significance and enthusiasm of the celebration
The gala Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great earnestness of feelings especially in Maharashtra and its outskirts cities and i am lucky to be here
